D. Richard Bernath, age 86, of Archbold, was called home to heaven on Oct. 20, 2017, at CHP Hospice in Defiance.
Richard was born on the family farm near Archbold on May 1, 1931, to Henry and L. Amanda (Fether) Bernath.
He married C. Colleen Ford in 1952, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together, he and Colleen maintained the family farm and dairy operation for most of their lives.
He was a friend and father figure to many and was always available to provide a helping hand. He was known by family, neighbors, and friends for his honesty, wisdom, and commitment to others.
All enjoyed his sense of humor and many stories.
He believed God and family should always come first and demonstrated these priorities throughout his life.
He was a member of the Archbold United Methodist Church and actively supported Colleen’s ministry of organ music.
He felt blessed by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them, recently giving each great-grandchild a ride on his tractor.
He enjoyed annual trips to many parts of the country with his wife and family, being sure to include his grandsons and daughter on many of these trips.
Richard is survived by his wife and daughter Deb (Dave) Mignin. He is also survived by two grandsons, Mike (Erin) Mignin, Illinois, and Kevin (Ashley) Mignin, Archbold, as well as five great-grandchildren, Max, Margaret, Madison, Luke Richard, and Leah.
He was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings: brothers Eldon, Glen, Clifford, and Calvin Bernath; and sisters Wilma (Bernath) Archer, Dorothy (Bernath) Kunkle, and Erma (Bernath) Stamm.
Visitation will be held at the Archbold United Methodist Church on Friday, Oct. 27, from 3-8 p.m. A celebration of Richard’s life will be also be held at the church on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m.
The family requests that all memorial gifts should be given to Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice of Defiance.
