Crowds Set Records At County Fair

The 2010 Fulton County Fair set two new records, one for Monday attendance and one for attendance over the four-day Labor Day weekend period.

The Fulton County Fair Board said 59,987 people walked through the gates on Monday, Sept. 6, which topped the old 2007 record of 59,065 by 922.

Over the four-day holiday weekend, a total of 209,746 persons entered the fairgrounds. That tops the 2007 record of 201,313 by 8,433. It’s the first time since 2007, and only the second time ever, the four-day fair attendance figure topped 200,000.

Attendance Monday was helped by perfect weather. Cloudy and cool conditions early in the day gave way to sunny and warm before the day was over.

The three previous days, Friday, Sept. 3 through Sunday, Sept. 5, fair attendance was close to breaking records, but was just shy.

On Friday, 26,034 people visited the fairgrounds, 787 short of the 2007 record of 26,821.

On Saturday, 60,609 people passed through the gates, just 122 short of the 2009 record of 60,731.

Sunday had 63,116 enter the fairgrounds, 414 short of the 2008 mark of 63,530. The 2008 Sunday total is the fair’s all-time single-day attendance record.

The seven-day attendance record for the Fulton County Fair was set in 2007.

That year, 281,091 visited the fair.

The 153rd Fulton County Fair runs through tomorrow, Thursday. The fairgrounds are open 8 am to 11 pm.
