Crash Deaths Down In 2008





 

 

Statistics from the Ohio Department of Public Safety show the number of fatal auto accidents in Fulton County dropped from 11 in 2007 to seven in 2008.

That’s the lowest number since 2005, when ODPS statistics said only five persons lost their lives in motor vehicle mishaps in the county.

The number of people killed is down in all of the four area counties, with the exception of Williams County.

Defiance County had the least deaths, with three, down from seven in 2007.

Williams County had the highest number in 2008: eight killed, up two from 2007.

Henry County saw five killed in autos, down from 11 in 2007.

Among those who lost their lives in motor vehicles in 2008, all were drivers- none were passengers or pedestrians.

One of who died was under 20. Another was between 21 and 25, a third was between 31 and 35, one was between 41 and 45, and another was between 46 and 50.

There was one person killed between 56 and 60, and one person was 76 or older.

Alcohol Involvement

ODPS statistics indicated that alcohol was a factor in two traffic deaths in Fulton and Defi ance counties.

In Fulton County, out of 989 total traffic crashes, 44 were alcohol-related. There were two persons killed and 21 injured in the 44 crashes.

Defiance County had 1,342 crashes in 2008. ODPS figures showed 55 were alcohol-related, involving two deaths and 33 injuries.

The highest number of crashes could be found in Williams County, where in 2008, 1,375 mishaps involving motor vehicles were reported.

Out of those crashes, ODPS said there were 45 alcohol-related crashes, which claimed one life and 23 injuries.

ODPS statistics for Henry County showed 666 crashes, of which 30 were alcohol-related. There were no deaths attributed to alcohol-rated crashes, but there were 15 injuries.

Injured

Fulton County has the largest population in the Four County area, at 42,084, ODPS statistics say.

Of the 989 crashes, 227 involved injuries to 356 persons.

The department of public safety’s statistics showed there were 39,500 persons living in Defiance County.

Out of the 1,342 crashes there, 238 resulted in injuries to 313 persons.

Williams County was third highest in terms of population. ODPS statistics say 39,188 persons live there.

Out of the 1,375 crashes, there were 235 crashes involving injuries, resulting in injuries to 339 persons.

Henry County’s population was 29,210, ODPS figures show. Out of that county’s 666 total crashes, 138 were injuryrelated, resulting in injuries to 208 persons.
