Courthouse Project On Time

Vond Hall, Fulton County administrator, said last week work at the Fulton County Courthouse is on time and relatively on budget.

The $4 million-plus renovation project started last fall and is expected to be completed this summer.

Hall said some change orders resulted from unexpected issues. The change orders have driven up costs by about 2%.

Crews are currently working on signs for various offices, and new window coverings. They are refurbishing tin ceiling tiles, patching and repairing as required, and painting.

Crews are also working on some of the electrical lights, switches, and receptacles.

Much work is planned for the Common Pleas Courtroom itself, on the second floor.

New, elevated theaterstyle seating will be added to the gallery, a return to the original courthouse design. New electronic equipment and new flooring in the courtroom will be added.

The courtroom has the original murals, believed to have been painted sometime between 1900-1935.

Workers were able to remove old varnish that had been applied over them.

The artwork “looks amazing,” Hall said.
