County Fair Sets Five Attendance Records

The 150th anniversary of the Fulton County Fair set five attendance records, according to information provided by the Fulton County Fair Board.

Four single-day attendance records were set, plus an overall record of 281,091 for the sevenday event.

The 2007 record is up 4.2%, or 11,262 persons, from the 2006 record seven-day attendance figure of 269,829.

However, the 150th Fulton County Fair did not break the record for the largest-ever oneday crowd, which was set on Sunday in 2006. That year, 62,743 persons walked through the fairground gates.

Big Numbers

On Friday, Aug. 31, the first day of the fair, fair board officials said 26,821 persons visited, which topped 2002’s record of 24,537. The 2007 Friday figure was up 2,284, or about 9.3%.

On Saturday, Sept. 1, attendance boomed again, with 58,321 walking through the gates, up 3,143, or about 5.7% from the 2005 record of 55,178.

Sunday, Sept. 2, saw a smaller crowd, with 57,106 attending, down 5,637, or about 9% from the 2006 record.

Monday, Sept. 3, was another record-setting day, when 59,065 spent their Labor Day at the fair. That’s up 4,651, or about 8.6% from the 2006 record.

Tuesday, Sept. 4 was the last of the record days, with 28,597 attending, about 2.6%, or 733 more than the 27,864 who visited the fairgrounds in 2000.

Wednesday, Sept. 5 and Thursday, Sept. 6 saw crowds dwindle. Unpleasant weather prevailed and mosquitoes swarmed the fairgrounds.
