Council Okays Scholarship

Archbold Village Council approved a scholarship program for the Archbold Parks and Recreation Department at the Monday night, Oct. 6, meeting.

Jennifer Kidder, director of Parks and Recreation, said the program will help defray the costs of some programs for lowincome families.

“This year, we saw an increase in the number of people who needed assistance. I don’t want to turn kids away,” she told council.

Many activities have low registrations fees, in the range of $5.

But others are more expensive. As an example, she said the registration fee for the traveling soccer team was $82.

Parks and Rec. will use the Archbold Area School District’s free and reduced lunch program to determine qualification.

All funds for the scholarship program will be raised privately. No tax money will be used, she said.
