Archbold Planning Commission did not approve a conditional use request from the Archbold Area School District, as stated in an article in this newspaper’s March 5 edition.
Dennis Howell, Archbold village administrator, said David Deskins, school district superintendent, appeared before the commission’s Monday, Feb. 25 meeting to provide information about a proposed wind test tower.
Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed test tower March 31 at 7 pm in Archbold Village Council chambers.
Howell said the commission will decide whether or not to allow the wind test tower as a conditional use. Planning commission’s decision must go before Archbold Village Council, and council must approve before a conditional use is allowed.
The school district is considering the test tower to determine if there is enough wind to make a commercial-size wind turbine feasible.
A wind turbine would turn a generator to produce electricity, thus reducing the school district’s monthly electricity bill.
Deskins has previously said if the district decides to pursue the test tower, it would be a guy-wired tower, about 186 feet tall. It will remain in place for a year to 18 months, recording wind data. It will probably be located west of the Archbold High School, but the district has not determined the exact location.
