Dan Borcherdt, 2005 Archbold High School graduate, led all scorers with a career-high 26 points in the Mount Vernon Nazarene University 104-67 season-opening men’s basketball victory over Cincinnati Christian University, Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Borcherdt went 8-12 from three-point range.

He scored 15 points on five treys and added four assists in MVNU’s 89-68 win over Berea (Ky.) College, Friday, Nov. 14.

The AHS grad tossed in 11 points in the Cougars’ 97-58 non-conference victory over the University of Northwestern Ohio, Saturday, Nov. 15.

Borcherdt averaged 11.0 points per game and handed out a career-high 129 assists last season. He also nailed 74 three-pointers and shot .875 from the free-throw line to earn American Mideast Conference South Division honorable mention status.

“Dan is one of the purest shooters we have had at MVNU,” said Scott Flemming, MVNU head coach. “He also does a great job of running the team when he plays the points.”

MVNU is ranked third in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Div. II poll.


Alex Nafziger, 2007 Pettisville High School graduate, scored 17 points in Huntington (Ind.) University 109-57 victory over Kuyper College in the first round of the Ness Bros. Hall of Fame Classic, Friday, Nov. 14.

One of seven HU players in double figures, Nafziger was 7- 11 from the field and 3-5 from the foul line.

The Foresters are 3-2.
