Melissa Kinkaid, Archbold, has completed an internship with the new bibliotheraphy program linking Eastern Mennonite University and Virginia Mennonite Retirement Community.
EMU students spent time reading with residents at VMRC this semester. The practice is not only mutually enjoyable but also therapeutic.
In the centuries-old practice of bibliotherapy, literature becomes a way to support good mental health and healing through connection to story.
Each EMU student is paired with a VMRC resident for weekly one-on-one meetings to dip into literature. The partners also trade personal stories, wisdom and connection.
Kinkaid is a 2016 graduate of Stryker High School and is the daughter of Jeff and Cindy.
