Co. Rd. C Opens Oct. 1

Fulton Co. Rd. C, which has been closed to through traffic since May 14, re-opens Monday, Oct. 1, said Jason Baden, civil engineer with the Fulton County Engineer Office Friday, Aug. 31.

Baden said Co. Rd. C has been closed from Co. Rd. 21 to Co. Rd. 19, while crews from Diversified Road & Pipe, Whitehouse, widened and repaved the roadway. Workers have also improved existing storm water drainage along the roadway.

“It’s a carry-over from last summer’s one-mile reconstruction project,” which saw the reconstruction of Co. Rd. C from Co. Rd. 21 to Co. Rd. 22, he said.

“We’ve got everything finished except the dirt work (final grading), the driveway approaches, and mailbox approaches,” Baden said.

The work schedule calls for crews to lay a final layer of asphalt. That portion of the project is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 12.

“We’ll try to do the seeding next,” Baden said.

Crews hope to open the road sooner than Oct. 1, but Baden said they want to be sure the grass seeding is finished, striping is done, and all road signs are back in place.

The overall cost of the Co. Rd. C project is about $1.5 million. Baden said about $1.2 million came from local road funds, which were derived from motor fuel taxes and license plate fees.

Another $300,000 share of the cost came from a grant, provided by the State Issue II infrastructure program.
