Christmas Day Crash Claims Man’s Life




A single-vehicle crash at 7:05 am, Christmas morning, left 27-year-old Joseph Babcock, Swanton, dead.

The crash is the second in Fulton County in less than four days to claim a life. Both occurred in Swancreek Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a press release Babcock was driving a pickup east on Co. Rd. B at about 7:05 am, when the vehicle went out of control as it drove through the Co. Rd. 2 intersection.

The pickup went off the right side of the road, came back onto the roadway, then went across the centerline and went off the left, or north, side of the road, where it struck a utility pole and overturned.

OSHP reported Babcock, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, Paul Cook, 18, Swanton, was injured. He was not wearing a seat belt.

He was flown by helicopter ambulance from the crash scene to the St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

As of Sunday night, Dec. 27, he was no longer a patient at St. Vs.

OSHP stated alcohol and speed are being investigated as causative factors in the crash.

Assisting at the scene were Providence Township Fire-Rescue, Swanton Rescue, and Fulton County sheriff deputies.

Jacob Baldwin, 24, Delta, was killed in a single vehicle crash about 5:22 pm, Monday, Dec. 21, after the pickup he was driving went out of control and crashed along Co. Rd. 4-1, near the Co. Rd. B intersection.

The Christmas Day crash is the eighth fatal accident in Fulton County in 2015.
