Chili Cookoff Serves Up Fun

The Chili Cookoff served up another big helping of fun for Archbold residents and guests, Saturday, Oct. 4.

From lively music, to good food, to a chance to meet and mingle with friends, the event showcased Archbold at its best.

The Sidestreet Café, where beer was served to the 21-and-over crowd, went off without a problem, and the turnout for the corn hole tournament showed just how popular this relatively simple game has become.

The cookoff wouldn’t be possible without the dedication and cooperation of many people. To paraphrase Nanette Buehrer, director of the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce, it takes a lot of work to put on a party for the whole town. Volunteers, village street department workers, those who prepared and served food, and many others worked hard so the rest of the village could enjoy the party.

The cookoff was such a success that there is talk of having some kind of fall festival every year. That’s an appealing idea, but remember, it takes a lot of volunteers, time and money to make such an event happen.

If the various organizations involved can make it happen, an annual fall event would be nice; but otherwise, once every other year is just the right recipe.
