Marsha Dowdy, executive director of the Archbold Area Chamber of Commerce, said tomorrow, Thursday, Sept. 30, is the last day for the 2010 Farmers’ Markets.

She said chamber officials have been pleased with the market, “but more importantly, the vendors have been pleased.

"If they’re not pleased, if they don’t have enough sales, they’ll stop coming back,” she said.

The market has averaged nine or 10 vendors weekly. Numbers were down in August, but rebounded in September, a repeat of last year’s experience. Last year, 2009, was the first year of the Farmers’ Market.

“There’s still plenty of produce, and fall produce is coming on– pumpkins, gourds, potatoes. We might have someone bringing apples this week,” she said.

Dowdy said the public reaction to the market has been good.

“I talked to a woman last week who was there for her second time. She said, ‘Why didn’t I come to this before?’

“If we can get people there, they’ll come back,” she said.

“People enjoy fresh produce, organically-grown produce, at reasonable prices, not something that’s bounded in a truck in crates,” she said.
