Laura Merritt, a spokesman for Verizon, a cellular telephone service provider, said plans are still on track to construct a cell tower site in Archbold in 2016.
The issue was in doubt after the Monday, Sept. 14 meeting of Archbold Village Council.
At that meeting, Dennis Howell, village administrator, told council he had been informed by company offi- cials the project was being pushed back to 2017.
The parent company of Verizon has received approval from the village to construct a 190-foot tall cell phone tower on village property on East Holland Street, roughly behind the village Street Department garage, on land adjacent to Lions Park.
The tower is expected to improve cell phone service in the village.
In an email message to this newspaper, Merritt said, “Ultimately, bottom line—we are moving forward on this site, which will add muchneeded capacity in the area.
“At this point I can’t provide the estimated completion date, but can tell you we’re on track to begin construction in 2016.”
