Carmon F. Martin, age 90, passed away surrounded by his family on July 5, 2017, at Fairlawn Haven.
Carmon was born April 29, 1927, in Pioneer. After graduation from Pioneer High School in 1945, he went on to study at the International Business College in Fort Wayne, Ind., graduating in 1948.
While in Fort Wayne, he met and married Maxine Hewes at the Fort Wayne Gospel Temple on January 14, 1951. They later moved to Pioneer, where he joined his family as a salesman for Throne Monument Works. Upon retirement, they moved to Archbold.
Carmon was a member of the Fayette Church of the Nazarene, where he received a Distinguished Service Award. He faithfully served as the music director for many years.
He also served on the church board and was an adult Sunday School teacher.
Carmon enjoyed gardening and flowers, especially roses given to him as gifts. He loved to camp with his family.
Carmon and Maxine traveled all over the United States with their family and friends.
After retiring, they took many cruises and trips. Among his favorites were notable flower gardens, especially the Butchart Gardens in British Columbia and the Rain Forest Gardens in Juneau, Alaska.
Carmon is survived by his wife Maxine; daughter, Londa (Steve) Renn, Defiance; and sons, Dennis (Annette) Martin, Boulder, Colo., and Gary (Becky) Martin, Auburn, Ind., and his sister-in-law, Mary Ann Martin. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Andrea (Jason) Stipe, Sylvania, Elyssa (Aaron) Price, Auburn, Ind., Tyler (Lynsey) Martin, San Francisco, Calif., Alaina Martin (fiance James Brown), San Francisco, Calif.; four stepgrandchildren, Audrey (Adam) Renn, Virginia Beach, Va., Renee Renn, Saint Louis, Mo., Aaron Shaver, Saint Louis, Mo., Madie Shaver, Brooklyn, N.Y.; four great-grandchildren, Henry Stipe, Lucy Stipe, Gabriel Price, and Peyton Martin; and one step-great-grandchild, Jacob Cutchin.
Carmon is preceded in death by his parents, Loyal and Vera Martin, and his brother, Stanley Martin.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 11, at the Fayette Church of the Nazarene at 511 S Fayette St, Fayette, Oh 43521.
Private interment was in the Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Fayette Church of the Nazarene or Fairlawn Haven.
