CaraLou Frey, born “De- Vries,” passed away at the age of 86 years old on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Glenn Park assisted living in Defiance.
Born at the DeVries home on South Defiance Street in Archbold on Dec. 16, 1927, to Opal Marie “Morgan” and William DeVries, CaraLou was one of the first women to graduate from Ohio State University School of Pharmacy.
Carrying on her family’s tradition, she was a third-generation pharmacist, practicing at the Red Cross Drug Store for over 60 years.
An avid gardner who loved to travel and believed in the necessity of bringing arts and culture to her community, she was a member of the sorority formerly known as Alpha Phi Delta and was a lifetime member of the Dutch Reform/ United Church of Christ.
Married to James Lowell Frey for 23 years, who preceded her in death in 1975, she is survived by her son, James William Frey of Defi- ance, who is a pharmacist; her daughters, Marcia Ann Frey of Seattle, Wash., also a pharmacist, and Sayer Susan Diane Frey, a film artist in Los Angeles, Calif.
There will be no funeral services, and in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in her name to: Black Swamp Arts Council: firstname.lastname@example.org.
