Cameron Thatcher Qualifies For World Jr. Diving Championships

Cameron Thatcher, 16, grandson of Maryann Thatcher, Archbold, qualified for the 2014 World Junior Diving Champpionships in Penza, Russia.

He and his synchronized diving partner, Jordan Windle, Morrisville, N.C., qualified by winning the USA Diving 3-Meter Synchro National Championship at the USA Diving Junior National Championships at the University of Tennessee in early August.

They finished fifth at the World Championships in September.

Additionally, at the Junior Nationals, Thatcher added two third-place finishes; one in the platform synchronized diving event with David Dinsmore, New Albany, his synchro partner and teammate at the Ohio State Diving Club, and also in the 3-meter 16-18 boys individual event.

Thatcher also finished 11th in the 1-meter 16-18 boys individual event finals after qualifying third in preliminary qualifying.

A junior at Olentangy Liberty High School, Powell, he is a two-time National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Assocation High School All- American.

He is a member of the USA Diving Junior Elite Performance Squad.

A resident of Powell, he lives with his parents, Paul and Kristin, and two siblings, Elli, 18, and Joey, 13.
