The Archbold Buckeye earned a second place in the National Newspaper Association 2012 Better Newspaper Contest.
The Buckeye placed second in the best investigative or in-depth story or series, non-daily division, less than 3,000 circulation.
The newspaper was recognized for articles related to the financial failure of Archbold Elevator. The articles were written by David Pugh, news editor.
The judges commented, “Great following of a local story, and the effect one event can have on a community.”
There were 1,954 entries in the newspaper competition, plus 395 in the Better Newspaper Advertising Contest, for a total of 2,349 entries.
A total of 525 awards went to 135 NNA-member newspapers in 36 states.
The Buckeye was one of only two Ohio newspapers to receive awards. Farm and Dairy, Salem, was the other.
Winners will be recognized during the annual NNA Convention, Saturday, Oct. 6, in Charleston, S.C.
