Bruns Top Fairlawn Resident

Ervin Bruns was named June Resident of the Month at Fairlawn Haven.

He was born Nov.19, 1910, to John and Ema Bruns, Ridgeville Corners. He had three siblings.

Ervin graduated from Ridgeville School. One of his first jobs was to make a bleaching project called “Javel,” which he sold door to door. He also sold Electrolux sweepers.

He worked for the A.S. Mignery Company selling candy and tobacco to area restaurants. In 1965, Ervin established the Nu- Way Rug and Upholstery Cleaners. He dedicated much of his life to the business until spring 2005.

In the late 1930s he met Wanda Young while rollerskating with some friends, and they married Nov. 12, 1940.

They lived their entire married life in the Stryker area and had two daughters, Bonnie Replogle and Rosalie Souers, and one son, David.

They owned a cottage at Crooked Lake. Ervin enjoyed raising a vegetable garden, and canned fruits and vegetables.

The couple also enjoyed collecting antiques. Over the years he won prizes at the Williams County Fair for his collection.

Ervin liked yard work and taking care of the outside of the couple’s home. For a number of years his outdoor Christmas decorations won prizes in Stryker.

Ervin attended the Lutheran Church and has a connection with the United Brethren Church in Stryker.
