Doris C. Britsch is the Fairlawn Haven resident for August.

Born May 21, 1925, to Eli and Jennie (Burkholder) Lugbill, she was the youngest of four children with one brother, Leon Lugbill, now deceased, and two sisters, Martha King and Myrtie Wagler.

She grew up on the family farm just outside of Archbold, attended the Spiess country school, and graduated from Archbold High School in 1943.

As a child, her family attended Central Mennonite Church, rural Archbold, where she met Dale Britsch, whom she married on July 11, 1943.

Doris and Dale first lived on a farm on the Pettisville road, and eventually, purchased a farm on Fulton Co. Rd. 24, south of the Archbold Elevator, where they lived most of their married life.

Doris enjoyed being a farmer’s wife, helping with farming responsibilities.

The couple had two daughters, Barbara Kauffman and Norma Sigg.

As active members of Central Mennonite Church, Doris taught children’s Sunday school and was involved in the Ladies Aid Society. She also helped prepare meals for church functions.

Doris always had a quilt in the frame during the winter months.

In the mid 1990s Dale died.

Before coming to Fairlawn Haven in 2003, she lived in the Fairlawn Court duplexes for 8 years.
