Brett Kolb Faces Big Challenge

Brett Kolb, new Fulton County Emergency Services director, faces a difficult challenge. He must restore the reputation of the county Emergency Medical Services department.

Fortunately, EMS is not tarnished by any kind of service problem. Instead, the office couldn’t collect its bills. In a county where officials are doing everything they can to stretch a dollar, that’s intolerable.

Kolb is a good choice for the position, as he has done difficult jobs before for the county.

During the problem years at the Fulton County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the commissioners named Kolb to the board. He dove into the DD board’s complex books, and made sense of them.

His most recent job was director of the Fulton County Board of Elections. Working with Kathy Meyer, Kolb took the much-maligned electronic voting machines and made them work. In fact, Fulton County was often one of the first of Ohio’s 88 counties to report results. Other counties have had problems with the machines.

Kolb has skills needed for the emergency services position. That is good news, because it’s a big job and an important county service.
