Former Stryker Coach Picked
For AHS Girls Basketball Head Coaching Job
Brian Ziegler, a former Coach of the Year at Stryker, has been named the Archbold High School head girls basketball coach.
That action came during a special Friday, Sept. 19 meet-ing of the Archbold Area School Board.
David Deskins, district superintendent, said Ziegler has 19 years of coaching experience. He was a coach in the Stryker school district from 1989 to 2003. He was the Stryker varsity boys basketball coach from 1995 until 2003, and in the 1999-2000 school year, he was the Division IV District 7 Coach of the Year.
Ziegler coached as a volun-teer in the Archbold school district from 2004-2006. For the 2006-07 school year, he was hired by Archbold as the eighth grade boys basketball coach.
"We’re very excited to have Brian as an addition to our coaching staff. We think he will be an outstanding role model to our kids," Deskins said.
Because Ziegler does not have teacher certification, the board had to take special action to hire him. The Ohio Revised Code permits such actions, Deskins said.
"We’re thrilled to get him in here," to start working with the girls, he said.
"It’s the start of an exciting year."
The coaching position became available when the board chose to non-renew the contract of Kevin "Scoop" Miller. Miller had held the head girls basketball coaching position for 10 years prior to the board’s action on Aug. 18.–Posted 9.17, 5:33 pm
