Borton, Hostetler Win BBC Jamboree Races




Pettisville runners Austin Borton and Tanner Hostetler won their respective races at the second Buckeye Border Conference Cross Country Jamboree at the Stryker Golf Course, Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Borton posted a time of 16 minutes, 36 seconds to claim the top boys spot. At the first BBC meet, Borton was third behind Hilltop’s Cody Livensparger and Stryker’s Kenny Graber.

At this meet, Livensparger was second, followed by teammate Neil Klinger.

Lincoln Frey was the second runner in for the Blackbirds, finishing sixth overall in 17:07.

Chris Matthews was 22nd in 18:29. Brandon Hamilton chased Matthews into the chute, finishing 23rd in 18:31. Aaron Bruner rounded out the scoring for the Birds, coming in 26th in 18:40.

Other Pettisville runners, their places and times: 47. Trevor Lantz 20:33; 51. Harris King 21:29; 55. Zach Davis 21:51; 60. Zach Pursel 24:56.

In the team scoring, Hilltop won with 50 points. Fayette was second with 53. Stryker was third with 68; Pettisville followed with 78. North Central had 111, and Edon scored 135.

Girls

In the girls race, Hostetler was all alone at the finish, crossing the line at 19:28 and repeating her first-place performance in the first BBC meet. Fayette’s Erica Goeltzenleuchter was second in 20:10.

Pettisville’s Brady Avina grabbed third place with a 21:06 run. Rachel Beck covered the course in 22:38 to place 11th. Jackie Morrill finished 14th in 23:17. Erin Fricke was Pettisville’s fifth runner, coming in 26th in 25:59.

Other Pettisville finishers, their places and times: 27. Taylore Lantz 26:02; 32. Kayla King 27:24.

In the girls team scoring, Pettisville was second with a score of 55. Fayette won with a score of 46; Stryker was just behind Pettisville with a team score of 56. North Central had 83 points; Hilltop, 135; and Edon, 148.

Fostoria

Pettisville traveled to Fostoria, Saturday, Oct. 4, to compete in the Black Division against 16 other teams at the Fostoria Boosters Invitational.

The PHS boys team placed fourth, with Fayette winning. The Pettisville girls came in 10th.

In the girls division, Hostetler was the first Blackbird across the finish line, coming in third in 19:36.

Two runners from Seneca East grabbed the top two spots.

Avina finished 18th in 21:29.

Lexie King finished 51st in 23:08. Morrill came in 81st in 24:49, and Fricke covered the 3.1 miles in 26:05 to finish 101st and complete scoring for the Pettisville team.

In the boys race, Borton placed third behind two runners from Sandusky Central Catholic. Borton crossed the line in 17:00 flat.

Frey finished seventh in 17:17. Hamilton ran the course in 18:38 for 37th place.

Bruner was 40th in 18:45. Matthews followed Bruner in, finishing 41st in 18:48.
