Blue Streaks Vs. Thunderbirds Sat.



Archbold (11-0) meets Lima Central Catholic (10-1) at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, at Findlay High School Donnell Stadium in a Division V regional football semifinal.

The Thunderbirds defeated eighth-ranked Tinora 21- 20 in their regional quarterfi nal, Saturday, Nov. 6.

After scoring with 50 seconds left, the Rams (10-1) missed the point-after-touchdown attempt for the onepoint loss.

LCC is making its seventh appearance in the playoffs, and has a 6-6 record in postseason play.

The Thunderbirds advanced to the regional semifi nal in 2009, where they lost to Tinora 24-14.

LCC has never won a state title.

Statistics

Archbold, ranked fourth in Division V in the final Associated Press weekly poll, is averaging 42.5 points per game. The defense has allowed an average of 9.6 ppg through the first 11 games.

LCC has averaged 40.3 ppg through the first 11 games and has allowed 9.8 ppg by its opponents this year.

The Thunderbirds’ largest margin of victory was 52 points in a 58-6 victory over Spencerville, Friday, Oct. 1.

Their only loss was in the first game of the season, a 34-14 defeat by Delphos St. John’s.

The Blue Jays (11-0) were ranked number one in the state in Div. VI in the final AP weekly poll.

Lima CC’s schedule also included Ada, who was ranked fourth in D-VI in the final AP poll.

Quarterback

Tyler O’Connor is the Thunderbirds’ starting quarterback. He was 110-170 in passing for 2,023 yards and 22 touchdowns in the regular season, and was intercepted only three times.

O’Connor was also the team’s second-leading rusher during the regular season, running for 336 yards and 10 touchdowns on 86 carries.

However, O’Connor left the regional quarterfinal game with Tinora after suffering a hip injury in the first quarter.

According to Jerry Cooper, LCC head coach, O’Connor is expected to play Saturday night.

Rushing, Receiving

Jon Washington led LCC in rushing with 659 of the team’s 2,359 rushing yards during the regular season. Bubba Krieg rushed for 371 yards and six touchdowns on 42 carries, and led the Thunderbirds in pass receiving, catching 32 passes for 745 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Jon Steiger caught 20 passes for 450 yards and four touchdowns, while Corey Stump caught 29 passes for 423 yards and four TDs.

The Thunderbirds’ defense allowed only 1,101 rushing yards and 693 passing yards in the regular season.

Against Tinora last week, Krieg ran for 122 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries. Taylor Royster scored the Thunderbirds’ other two touchdowns on two 1-yard runs. He rushed for 59 yards on 11 carries in the contest.

LCC rushed for 234 yards on 43 carries against the Rams and passed for 99 yards for a total of 333 yards. LCC had three fumbles and lost two.
