Blue Streaks Play Liberty-Benton In Regional Semifinal

Archbold meets Liberty-Benton at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8 for a Division V regional semifi nal at Bowling Green State University.

It’s the second straight year the Streaks have played the Eagles in a regional playoff game. Last year Liberty-Benton beat AHS 45-13 in a first-round regional quarterfinal game, then defeated Tinora 14-7 in a regional semifinal before losing to Patrick Henry 44-27 in the regional final.

The Eagles defeated Delphos Jefferson (9-2) 34-0, Saturday, Nov. 1 in their regional quarterfinal. It was the sixth straight shutout and eighth of the season for Liberty-Benton, who finished the season ranked third in Div. V by the Associated Press.

The Eagles have allowed only 26 points all year.

In the computer rankings the Eagles finished second in Div. V Region 18, behind Patrick Henry.

Liberty-Benton is led by junior quarterback Aaron Craft, who threw touchdown passes of 13 and 15 yards, ran for a 28- yard TD, and returned a fumble 47 yards for a TD in last week’s game. Craft completed 20/28 passes for 255 yards while he was in the game. He also led the Eagles with 66 yards rushing on 14 carries.

The Eagles ran for 103 yards and threw for 274 (21/29) in their contest with Delphos Jefferson. Justin Hyde caught seven passes for 119 yards; Ryan Cook had seven catches for 68 yards.

Defensively Liberty-Benton allowed the Wildcats 120 yards rushing and only 12 passing yards (1/12).

The Eagles led 13-0 at halftime, and scored seven points in the third quarter and 14 in the fourth for the victory.
