Blue Streaks Continue Quest For 10th Straight NWOAL Championship

The Archbold softball team won Northwest Ohio Athletic League contests against Wauseon and Montpelier while dropping two tight non-league contests. The Streaks dropped a 3-1 decision to Anthony Wayne while losing a 1-0 decision to Elmwood in nine innings.

Archbold stands 12-4, 4-0 NWOAL.

AHS 9, Wauseon 2

The Streaks jumped out to a 7-0 lead after two innings and went on to defeat the Indians 9-2, Monday, April 20.

Madison Kohler had a run-batted-in double while Emie Peterson had an RBI single in the first inning.

Winter Fricke had a tworun single while Cassi Wyse and M. Kohler had RBIs in the second inning.

The Streaks rapped out 12 hits, led by M. Kohler’s 3-4 performance which included two doubles. Fricke was 2-2 to aid the Streak cause.

Payton Robinson scattered five hits while striking out eight and walking only one.

AHS 10, Montpelier 2

AHS led 6-2 after three innings and went on to a 10-2 NWOAL victory over the Locos, Thursday, April 23.

Peterson was the leader at the plate as she collected three hits and a walk in four trips. Alyssa Ziegler also collected three hits, including two doubles.

Cassi Wyse was 2-3 with three RBIs.

Archbold collected 13 hits in the contest and held the Locos to four.

Robinson pitched the first five innings while Ziegler pitched the last two.

Robinson struck out five while Ziegler struck out two.

Anthony Wayne 3, AHS 1

Anthony Wayne and Archbold played a hotly contested game at Archbold, Friday, April 24, which ended with the Generals winning 3-1.

The game was tied at 1 in the fifth when the Generals scored on an infield single.

Anthony Wayne added an insurance run in the seventh inning with a solo home run.

The Blue Streaks had the bases loaded in the second with none out, but failed to score.

Archbold also stranded two runners in the seventh and was able to muster only three hits in the contest.

Fricke had an RBI single to lead AHS at the plate.

Anthony Wayne’s pitcher struck out 16 while Robinson was the hard-luck losing pitcher. She gave up eight hits while striking out four and walking none.

Elmwood 1, AHS 0 9 innings

Ziegler hooked up in a pitcher’s duel with Miranda Benschoter, and the game finished with the Royals scoring the only run of the game in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Ziegler gave up only three hits while striking out 14 and walking two.

Archbold out-hit the Royals 6-3, but the story of the game was missed opportunities.

The Streaks had runners on second and third with one out in the sixth and had the bases loaded with no outs in the seventh but were unable to score in either inning.

Ziegler and Brooke Kohler each had two hits.

“It was certainly disappointing to have a couple of opportunities to score and win the game in regulation, but things did not work out in our favor,” said Joe Frank, AHS head coach.

“The good thing is we were able to play a couple of real good teams and prove to ourselves that we could compete with them, and then some.

“We played some very good defense in the two games, and we are going to be better for playing these two games in the long run.

“Overall, it was a pretty good week and we have a chance to clinch a share of the NWOAL title next week.”
