Blue Streak Volleyball 4-0

The Archbold volleyball team remains undefeated after conquering Swanton 25-20, 22-25, 25-17, 25-6, Thursday, Sept. 6, in a Northwest Ohio Athletic League match. AHS is 4-0, 2-0 NWOAL.

Lauren Kern started strong in the first game, serving two aces. Combined with a Swanton error, the Streaks led 3-0. Late in the game, Emily Snyder smacked down a kill for a 23-20 lead.

Kern finished the game with a kill at 24-20, then put down a tip kill to win 25-20.

The second game started back and forth and was tied at 5, but Swanton had a momentum swing that gave them an 11-5 lead.

Julie Nofziger, AHS head coach, called a time-out after a sloppy play and the Streaks were down 20-14. SHS called a timeout at 24-22 after Kern and Devin Newman had a double block. Adi Lange served the ball too long, ending the second game in Swanton’s favor, 25- 22.

The third game showcased Archbold’s phenomenal front line. Snyder hit an overhead kill to break the tie at 4. Lange, instead of smacking the ball down, tipped the ball into a hole in Swanton’s defense for a point to lead 8-6.

Dani Newman upped the lead to 18-13 after a kill.

Lange, Snyder and Dani Newman led AHS with 12, 12, and 11 kills, respectively.

Swanton failed to make plays on the last three points as Archbold won 25-17.

The fourth game was total AHS domination. The Streaks scored six points before Swanton scored even one.

Stacy Wyse put down a roll kill for a 16-4 lead. Wyse also set 33 perfect balls.

The last three points of the game included a Kern block, a Lange back-row attack, and a hard Dani Newman spike for the 25-6 win.

Dani Newman led the team in digs, with 26. Lange wasn’t far behind, with 21.

Laura Wyse was 24/25 in serving. Overall as a team, AHS served 91 percent.
