Girls Under-14 Team

The Archbold Blue Streak Soccer Club Girls Under-14 team opened the spring season, Thursday, April 17, traveling to Defiance. The girls had little time to practice due to bad weather, but were very aggressive. Archbold dominated, outshooting Defiance 18-2, but lost 1-0.

ESSL visited Woodland Park, Sunday, April 20. The game was a carbon copy of the first. The girls could not find the goal and lost again 1-0.

The Swanton Bulldogs came to town, Monday, April 21, and Streak shots finally found the goal. Archbold scored seven while goalkeeper Megan Arend held Swanton scoreless. Scoring for the Blue and Gold were Ruthie Beck, Becca Gerig, Lauren Kindinger, Jesse Fidler, Cassidy Wyse and Mindy Rupp, with two.

The Swanton Strikers came to town, Saturday, April 26. Once again, the Blue Streak offense was in high gear. Gerig and Kindinger each scored three times and Rupp added one for a 7-0 final. Arend and Beck saw time in the goal.

Wauseon came to town, Sunday, April 27. This team defeated Archbold twice last fall, so the girls were looking to avenge the losses. After a scoreless first half, Archbold started the scoring 2-0. Wauseon came back with a goal to cut into the lead, but Archbold scored one more to insure a 3-1 victory.

Mindy Rupp scored all three goals, one on an assist by Hanna Allison. Other team members: Carly Wyse, Sierra Nofziger, Gabrielle Deskins, Kassidy Garrow, Meggie Yoder, and Krista Leupp. They are coached by Vaughn Bentz and Skip Leupp.

Boys Under-10 Team

The Boys U-10 team traveled to play Maumee Rockets White on a chilly Sunday, April 20. Tara Short, an Archbold coach, refereed the first half since no referee came. A Maumee parent refereed the second half.

Archbold kept the Rockets to only four goals scored in the first two quarters. AJ Short made the lone Archbold score in the third quarter, but one Maumee player scored five more goals. AJ Short, as goalie, stopped a penalty shot. Worn down in the fourth quarter, Archbold lost 13-1.

After a three-day break, Archbold hosted Pacesetter Crescent, Thursday, April 24. In the first quarter, Seth Mayer scored two goals, and AJ Short scored one. Pacesetter countered with three. However, Alex Short reached up to the top of the goal post to stop a goal.

In the second quarter, Mayer, AJ Short, and Michael Weigand each scored. Alex Weaver, in defense, helped keep Pacesetter to only one goal. Kyle Kinsey had two saves as goalie.

In the third, Pacesetter sprinted to five additional goals. The final quarter continued the excitement with Weigand scoring two, but Pacesetter scoring three for the 11-6 final. Seth Mayer made three exciting saves in goal, including a diving save.

The Blue Streaks played another chilly and windy game, Saturday, April 26 when West Central United visited. Kegan Ott scored the first goal with an assist from Mayer. In the second, Weigand scored with an assist from AJ Short, but West Central United countered. Seth Mayer had an exciting save in goal.

In the third, West Central scored twice. AJ Short scored against the wind on a corner kick. Seth Mayer scored in the final quarter, but West Central scored three for the 6-4 final.

The Blue Streaks host BG, Saturday, May 3, 5:30 p.m.

Boys U-11 Team

The Boys Under-11 team had another great week, beating the Defiance Strikers 8-0, Thursday, April 24. Jeremy Lerma, Joshua Liechty, and Jackson Waidelich scored two goals each. Single goals were scored by Oscar Calderon and Zach Meyer.

The Streaks hosted Bowling Green, Saturday, April 26 and won 4-0. Goals scored: Oscar Calderon, Jeremy Lerma, Matt Sevey, and Jackson Waidelich. Outstanding shutout goalkeeping by Luke Fisher and Elijah Robison. The Streaks are 3-0-1.

Boys U-14 Team

The Boys U-14 team started its spring season with a scoreless tie against the Wauseon Indians, Friday, April 18. Goalkeeper Blake Drewes and defenders Nathaniel Rodriguez, Nathan Wachtmann, Nick Cassidy, Alex Hurst, and Ben Eggers contributed to the shutout.

The team next faced a big Maumee Express team and suffered a 2-0 loss.

Archbold hosted the Defiance Strikers, Monday, April 21. The Streaks struck first just four minutes into the match when winger Caleb Liechty sent a cross in from the left side that midfielder Micah Bernath put in the back of the net. Defiance responded with three unanswered goals in the next 35 minutes before midfielder David Bontrager scored with a sliding shot from the right side off a pass from fullback Cassidy.

Defiance answered in the 54th minute to stretch its lead to 4-2. Nine minutes later striker Jarett Lerma scored with a powerful low shot to the goalie’s right that returned the deficit to 1. Defiance scored the final goal with two minutes remaining to seal the 5-3 victory.

The Streaks traveled to Bryan, Friday, April 25 for their first road match. Bryan scored the opening goal just before halftime. Archbold answered seven minutes after the break when Bontrager brought the ball in from the right goal line and passed to Drewes, who knocked in the goal. Bryan responded 12 minutes later to go ahead 2-1.

With seven minutes remaining, Liechty outran the Bryan defense to score on a breakaway down the middle, producing the 2-2 final.

The team travels to Napoleon, Friday, May 2 for a 6:30 pm match.
