The Archbold 14 and Under boys soccer team opened the fall season with two wins. Maumee invaded Archbold, Sunday, Sept. 12. Oscar Calderon scored at the 12-minute mark off an assist from Matt Sevey. Goalkeeper Elijah Robison then denied Maumee a goal off a corner kick. Archbold led 1-0 at halftime.
The Blue Streak offense came alive in the second half. Mike Weigand powered through the Maumee defense with a goal at the five-minute mark. Ninety seconds later, Sevey scored. Gavin Morton shocked the Maumee defenders by hitting a goal from midfield off a free kick at the 12-minute mark.
Five minutes later Morton drove the length of the field from his defender position and scored, giving the Streaks a 5-0 lead. Maumee scored a goal at 21 minutes, but AJ Short sealed the victory with a goal at 29 minutes, with an assist by Sevey, for a 6-1 victory.
Archbold traveled to Bryan, Monday, Sept. 13 to face the 1-0 Bears. Midfielder Jackson Waidelich drew first blood with a goal at the 6:40 mark of the first half. At 16:30, forward Seth Mayer fed the ball inside to Weigand for a goal and a 2- 0 lead. Sevey scored again at 22:00. Bryan scored two goals right before halftime, cutting the lead to 3-2.
The Blue Streak defense set the tone for the second half. Curtis Wooley, Morton, Kyle Ott, Zach Belknap, Zach Meyer, Keagan Ott, Waidelich, and Jeremy Lerma kept the ball away from the Bryan attackers.
At 24 minutes, Sevey fed the ball to Jesse Felix, who faked left and shot to the right, scoring his first goal of the season. Mayer put the game away at the 31-minute mark off an assist by Calderon for a 5-2 victory.
