Boys U-18

The Pettisville junior varsity traveled to Archbold, Tuesday, Oct. 7, falling to the Streaks 5-0.

Just four minutes into the match, Adrian Ramirez scored with Lucas Burnett providing the assist. Eight minutes later the two reversed roles as Burnett scored on a Ramirez assist that was set up by a pass from Nathaniel Rodriguez.

Three minutes into the second half, Ramirez continued his assault, scoring on a powerful shot from 25 yards out directly off a throw-in by McCaylen Croninger. With 11 minutes remaining, starting goalkeeper Jonny Lantz, who had switched to right wing, took advantage of a tripping foul to score a penalty kick, his first goal as a high schooler.

Clayton Lehman closed out the scoring for the Streaks with five minutes remaining when he knocked in a missed shot from the right side by Jarett Lerma.

Archbold traveled to Liberty Center, Saturday, Oct. 11 to battle the Tigers. David Lauber and Aaron Bontrager got the Streaks out to an early lead with each scoring unassisted goals. Burnett gave the Streaks a 3-0 halftime lead after scoring on an assist from defender Josh Cuellar.

After the break, Rodriguez scored before Gabriel Peña knocked in the final tally of the match with Justin Allison assisting. The 5-0 win was anchored defensively by Cuellar, Garrett Waidelich, Croninger, Lauber, Nick Cassidy, Peter Lehman and goalie Blake Drewes.

The two wins improved Archbold’s record to 10-1. The team hosts Ft. Wayne Fusion, Thursday, Oct. 23, 5 p.m., in their final match of the season.

Boys U-14

The Archbold Blue Streak Soccer Club Boys U-14 team hosted Swanton, Saturday, Oct. 11, defeating the Bulldogs 7-1. Jase Grosjean scored in the 15th minute, with Bryce Tinsman assisting. Three minutes later, David Bontrager knocked in a left-foot shot, assisted by Seth Yoder, to give the Streaks a 2-0 lead going into halftime.

After the break, midfielder Caleb Liechty went on a tear, scoring three goals in six minutes. The first was a breakaway that skipped off the keeper’s head and was assisted by Bontrager. Liechty’s final two scores of his hat trick were assisted by Ryan King and Nathan Wachtmann.

In the final five minutes, Alex Hurst hit the scoring column twice, the first on a breakaway after a Bontrager through ball and the second cleaning up a Devin Shannon shot that skipped through the goalie’s hands.

The Bulldogs mustered their lone goal with three minutes remaining to avoid the shutout.

The Streaks traveled to Bowling Green, Sunday, Oct. 12, falling 4-2. BG struck early with a goal in the second minute. Grosjean tied the score in the 23rd minute with a goal assisted by Liechty and Shannon. BG then scored three unanswered goals to build a 4- 1 lead before Grosjean scored again with another Liechty assist with three minutes remaining to produce the 4-2 final.

Wauseon visited Archbold, Saturday, Oct. 18 under the lights at Spengler Field. Archbold struck early when King passed to Bontrager, who powered in the goal from 20 yards out while dribbling to his right.

In the 20th minute, Grosjean tallied another Streak score when he slipped in a shot from a narrow angle on the left side, fed by a Tinsman free kick

After halftime, Bontrager added his second goal of the evening, taking advantage of a goalie misplay to hit a hard, left-footed ball into the net. With four minutes remaining, Tinsman capped the 4-0 Blue Streak victory with a long breakaway goal, assisted by King. Goalkeeper Zach Zimmerman chalked up another shutout with support from defenders Ben Eggers, Liechty, Hurst, Tinsman, Wachtmann, Brodie Ranzau, and Andrew Mayer.

The U-14 team is 5-3-1 and travels to Toledo Glass City, Saturday, Oct. 25, 1 pm, for the final match of the season.
