Boys U-11

The Archbold Blue Streak Boys U-11 team started the season with a home game at Woodland Park against Glass City, Saturday, Sept. 6.

Seth Mayer started the scoring within the first four minutes. Four minutes later, Austin Welch scored the game’s second goal. Mayer scored his second goal of the first half and switched to goalie position, bringing AJ Short onto the field. Short shot toward goal, but Welch knocked it in for his second goal and a 4-0 lead.

Jared Kidder scored two goals and Michael Weigand scored one for a 7- 0 in the first half. Welch moved into goalie position in the first part of the second half and Weigand the latter half, because the Blue Streaks were on a roll and continued to score.

Weigand, Alex Weaver, Kyle Kinsey, and Short scored one goal each and Glass City scored for an 11-1 Archbold lead. Kyle Ott scored twice, including a chip shot over the goalie’s hands, for the 13-1 final. Jack Fisher played midfield and two offensive positions during the game.

Kegan Ott hustled on right and left forward positions. Curtis Wooley played awesome defense and midfield positions, almost scoring a goal from a midfield kick.

The Blue Streaks played ESSL Arsenal at Woodland, Sunday, Sept. 7. Mayer again started the scoring in the first four minutes; then he crossed a ball from the outside corner for Short to score, giving Archbold a 2-0 lead.

Jack Fisher scored his first goal of the season. Weigand scored three goals and Short and Kidder followed with a goal each to give the Blue Streaks an 8-0 lead. In goal, Kyle Kinsey shut out ESSL in the first half.

In the second half, Kegan Ott scored his first goal of the season. ESSL made a breakaway to score on Weigand, the lone goalie. However, Weigand came out charging like a defender later to save his team from a similar situation. Finally, right wing Kidder made the ball soar across the goalie area for Welch to partially head the ball, followed by a final hit-in by Mayer to win the game 10- 1. The coaches are Tara Short and Mike Weaver. They host the Defiance Strikers, Thursday, Sept. 11, 6 p.m.

Boys U-18

The Blue Streak Soccer Club Boys U-18 team entertained the visiting Eastwood Eagles JV, Thursday, Aug. 28, under the lights at Spengler Field. Archbold struck 10 minutes into the first half, when defender Garrett Waidelich corralled a corner kick that had deflected high in the air, punching in the goal.

Four minutes later, midfielder Bobby Rodriguez increased the Streaks’ lead with a breakaway goal after a long, leading throw-in from Lucas Burnett. With less than a minute left before the half, Adrian Ramirez scored a penalty kick after Eastwood was called for tackling from behind in the penalty area, giving Archbold a 3-0 halftime lead.

Just one minute after the break, Eastwood notched its first goal. The Streaks responded two minutes later when Rodriguez went on another goalscoring breakaway after a long upfield pass from middle Aaron Bontrager.

With 22 minutes remaining, the Eagles netted the final score of the match, a 4-2 Archbold win. The Streaks’ defensive unit, anchored by Waidelich, Burnett, McCaylen Croninger, Josh Cuellar, and keeper Jonny Lantz, turned in another strong performance.
