The Archbold Blue Streaks youth soccer club kicks off its fifth year with three girls teams and seven boys teams ranging in age from 9-and-under to 18- and-under.

The ten teams feature 123 players, with most season-opening matches occurring after Labor Day.

The boys U-18 team began its season Saturday, Aug. 23, with an 11-0 victory over Liberty Center on a sultry Spengler Field.

The Streaks built a 5-0 halftime lead and held that pace in the second half to seal the victory.

Bobby Rodriguez led Archbold with a three-goal hat trick. Adrian Ramirez and Austin Short chipped in two goals each, with one of Ramirez’s goals coming on a penalty kick.

Nate Rodriguez, Jarett Lerma, Justin Allison, and Gabriel Peña rounded out the scoring. Aaron Bontrager, Lerma, and Short each provided an assist.

Jonny Lantz and Blake Drewes shared goalkeeping duties for the shutout.

The team returns to Spengler Field, Thursday, Aug. 28 for a 7 pm match with the Eastwood Eagles.
