Archbold used a 23-7 third period to run away from Edgerton 61-39, Saturday, Nov. 26, at Edgerton, in the season opener for both teams.
“This was a nice way to start the season,” said Brian Ziegler, AHS head coach. “We were able to get a lot of girls in and got some very nice balance in the scoring column.”
All 11 Blue Streaks played, and nine hit the scoring column. Cassidy Wyse and Mindy Rupp led the Streaks with 11 points each. Jesse Fidler also was in double digits, with 10.
Archbold jumped out to a 12-4 lead after one period and led 26-17 at the half.
“I liked our pressure on the defensive end, especially by the guards,” said Ziegler. “We were able to disrupt their offense.
“We came out slow on the offensive end, and once the first-game jitters were gone, we did okay.
“The third quarter was a big key, led by several fullcourt transitions by Cassidy Wyse.
“I was pleased with our free-throw shooting. We’ll try to cut the mistakes down and keep reinforcing the good things we did.”
Shelby Herman, Devin Stark, and Jamie Newman paced the Bulldogs with nine points each.
Archbold was 13-17 from the free-throw line; Edgerton was 12-19.
The Streaks won the rebounding battle, 21-16, led by Abby Short with eight. The Bulldogs committed 31 turnovers to Archbold’s 26.
Edgerton won the junior varsity contest, 46-38.
