Blue Streak Girls Dominate Edgerton Bulldogs 59-29

The Archbold girls basketball team opened its season with a 59-29 win at Edgerton, Saturday, Nov. 17.

The game’s first two points were scored by Blue Streak senior Dani Newman. Laura Wyse gave AHS a seven-point lead with a three-pointer later in the first period, but the Bulldogs closed the gap to 13-10 at the end of the quarter, the closest the score would be all night.

Alyssa Schaub grabbed a rebound and put it back up for two early in the second quarter. Edgerton scored on its next possession, keeping the score within three.

The rest of the second quarter went to the Blue and Gold. AHS went on an 18-0 run, including back-to-back treys by Abbey Graber and Newman with three minutes left in the half, for a 33-12 lead.

The third quarter started slow. Adi Lange scored the first bucket and was fouled as she drove, for a conventional threepointer.

With 2:37 left in the third, Edgerton scored its first two points since early in the second quarter. As the period ended, AHS led 46-14.

Edgerton sent AHS to the line eight times in the final period; the Streaks converted seven for the 59-29 final.

AHS was 23/51 from the field for 45% and 9/15 from the line. Newman and Graber led the Streaks with 11 points each.

Edgerton was 9/42 from the field for an ice-cold 21% and 10/12 from the line. Brooke Riehle led Edgerton with eight points.

Newman and Schaub each grabbed six rebounds. As a team Archbold out-rebounded Edgerton 33-20.

“It was a good team win, as everyone made a contribution,” said Kevin “Scoop” Miller, AHS coach. “We moved the ball well and played very unselfish.

“It was nice to see a good rebounding effort as well.”
