The Archbold Blue Streaks used a 15-4 third quarter to spurt past Bucyrus Wynford 47-42 in the Div. III regional semifinal at BGSU, Wed., March 5.
AHS will take on Ottawa-Glandorf for the regional championship, Saturday, March 8, 7:30 p.m. at BGSU. The Titans defeated Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in the first game 58-47.
The Streaks will be out to avenge a 65-59 loss at OG on Jan. 19.
Against Wynford, the score was tied at 10 after one period. The Royals used a 17-10 second quarter to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room.
After Wynford scored a bucket with 7:03 left in the third period, Archbold went on a tear, going on a 12-0 run to take a 32-29 lead on a Justin Rupp three-pointer with 2:08 left in the period. Archbold led 35-31 going into the final eight minutes.
Wynford took back the lead at 38-37 with 3:32 left in the game. Rupp hit another three to give AHS a 40-38 lead, but the Royals tied it up at 40.
Colton Martinez hit a trey to give the Blue and Gold the lead for good at 43-40. With only one team foul the Royals started fouling, and finally got their seventh team foul with 29.6 seconds left. Trey Smith hit both ends of a one-and-one for a 45-40 AHS lead.
Kyle Shroll hit a bucket with 15.2 seconds left to close the gap to 45-42. Martinez missed the front end of a one-and-one with 13.8 seconds left, but AHS got the ball back and Goering was sent to the free-throw line with 2.6 ticks left. He hit both foul shots to give AHS the five-point victory.
Smith led AHS with 13 points. Goering grabbed 11 rebounds.
Nathan Etler, who hit a trey that forced overtime in Wynford’s district final with Ontario, led the Royals with 12 points.
