Blue Streak Baseball Goes 3-3 On Week, Drops To 6-7

The Archbold baseball team picked up a pair of Northwest Ohio Athletic League victories to raise its league record to 2-0, but lost to Pettisville and both ends of a doubleheader at Perrysburg for a 6-7 overall record.

AHS 5, Wauseon 1

Archbold hosted the Indians, Monday, April 12, picking up a 5-1 victory in the NWOAL opener for both.

Collin Walker went the distance on the mound for the Blue Streaks, giving up one run on three hits, striking out four, and walking one.

“Collin was in command for the whole game,” said Dick Selgo, AHS head coach. “He mixed his pitches well and threw strikes. The defense played very well behind him, including an outstanding diving catch in center field by his brother, Corey.”

Aaron Bontrager and Corey Wyse each went 2-3 at the plate with Bontrager registering one run batted in. Ben Miller went 1-2 with a double.

AHS 10, Hilltop 2

Archbold traveled to Hilltop (2-7), Tuesday, April 13 and came home with a 10-2 victory.

Corey Walker picked up his fourth win in five games. The senior gave up one run on five hits, struck out seven, and walked one in six innings.

At the plate, Bontrager went 2-3 with two RBIs. Zac Grosjean went 1-3 with an RBI double.

AHS 14, Montpelier 5

Archbold picked up its second NWOAL win when the Streaks hosted Montpelier, Thursday, April 15.

The Locomotives started hot, scoring four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Streaks exploded for eight runs in the third on their way to the win.

Corey Wyse (1-0) came on in relief with four runs already in for Montpelier to pick up the win. In 6 2/3 innings he gave up one run on three hits, struck out three, and walked three.

Archbold totaled 18 hits, with Collin Waller going 4- 4 with a triple and one RBI. Bontrager went 3-4 with a double and three RBIs; Tanner Wyse, 3-5, double, two RBIs; Corey Walker, 2-3, triple, two RBIs; Sam Miller, 2-3, one RBI; Trey Westrick 2-2, one RBI.

Pettisville 11, AHS 7

Archbold came up empty, Friday, April 16 when it traveled to Perrysburg for a doubleheader.

The Streaks lost the first game 2-0 with Perrysburg’s David Gordon pitching a one-hit shutout.

Tanner Wyse suffered the loss on the mound. He gave up two runs on seven hits, struck out five, and walked two in six innings.

Ben Miller had Archbold’s only hit.

The Streaks fell 2-1 in the nightcap, with Corey Walker picking up the loss. In 4 1/3 innings he gave up two runs on four hits, struck out seven, and walked five.

Archbold scattered four hits. T. Wyse was 2-2 with one RBI.

The Yellow Jackets led 1-0 after one. AHS tied the score in the third, and Perrysburg’s Matt Kruzel drove in the winning run in the bottom of the fifth with a base hit.
