Blackbirds Win Fifth Straight Sectional Title

Pettisville (16-7) defeated Cardinal Stritch (9-12) 25- 14, 25-13, 25-21 to win its fifth straight Division IV sectional volleyball championship, Thursday, Oct. 19, in the Bird Cage.

“I could not be more proud of our girls,” said John Horning, PHS head coach. “They came ready to play, and we played with a lot of heart and passion.”

The second-seeded Birds advanced to the district semifinals, where they played third-seeded Ayersville (12- 9) last night, Tuesday, at Napoleon.

In their regular-season match, the Pilots prevailed in five games.

In last night’s other district semifinal, top-seeded Toledo Christian (18-5) played 10th-seeded Stryker (9-15), an upset winner over fourth-seeded North Central in their sectional final.

The district championship game is Thursday, Oct. 26, 7 pm, at NHS.

Serving: Kyra Behnfeldt 13-14; Jess Youse 13-13; Morgan Leppelmeier 10-13; Ryeanna Klopfenstein 10-11, 1 ace. Team: 63-68, 4 aces.
