Blackbirds Finish Second In BBC

The Pettisville volleyball team set up a rematch with Edon to battle for the Buckeye Border Conference title after beating North Central, 25-10, 25-22, 25-17, Tuesday, Oct. 7.

But the Birds lost to the Bombers for the second time this season, as Edon went 10-0 in the BBC with a 25-18, 25-12, 25-21 victory over PHS, Thursday, Oct. 9.

The Birds were second in the BBC with an 8-2 record.

Pettisville finished its regular season with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 27-25 win over Swanton, Saturday, Oct. 11.

The Birds are 14-7 as they enter Divison IV sectional tournament play.

PHS Def. North Central 25-10, 25-22, 25-17

Chelsea Schmucker led PHS with 14 kills and 29/29 attacks. Haley Nofziger had six kills, six solo blocks, and was 13/13 serving with one ace.

Katie Weber had eight kills, was 20/25 in attacking and 12/12 in serving with two aces. Lauren Bontrager had two aces; Karina Rohrer-Meck had four aces, was 47/48 in setting, and had two kills.

Stephanie Yoder had three kills and one solo block. Tessa Yoder had one kill and was 17/17 in setting.

As a team, PHS was 68/69 in serving, 46/50 in serve reception, 57/65 in passing, 77/79 in setting, and 105/119 in attacks.

The PHS junior varsity won 25-20, 25-23.

Edon Def. PHS 25-18, 25-12, 25-21

The Birds were 69/89 in attacks and 38/46 in serving in their defeat. T. Yoder, Weber, and Nofziger each served an ace. Weber and Nofziger each had two solo blocks; S. Yoder and Rohrer-Meck each had one.

Schmucker and Nofziger each had six kills; Weber had four; S. Yoder had three; and Rohrer- Meck had one.

Rohrer-Meck was 49/49 in setting; T. Yoder was 21/22.

The Edon JV won 25-9, 25- 22.

PHS Def. Swanton 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 27-25

The Birds got back on track with a non-league final regular- season win over the Bulldogs.

Rohrer-Meck was 28/30 in serving with two aces. Schmucker had Pettisville’s only other ace; she also had 14 kills.

Nofziger had 15 kills and five solo blocks. Weber had 15 kills and one solo block. S. Yoder had 10 kills and two solo blocks.

Rohrer-Meck was 68/68 in setting and had two kills. T. Yoder was 57/60 in setting. Ashley Eicher had three kills.

The PHS JV won in two games.

Sectional Tourney

The Birds, seeded number one in their sectional tournament at Pettisville, received a bye in the first round. They play the Tuesday, Oct. 14 Toledo Christian-Fayette winner at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18.

The winner plays in the district semifinal, Tuesday, Oct. 21, 7 p.m. The district final is Saturday, Oct. 25, 5 p.m. at Napoleon.
