The Pettisville boys basketball team is sharing the Buckeye Border Conference title for the second straight year after defeating North Central 53-27, Friday, Feb. 27.
The Birds and Stryker both finished the BBC season with 8-2 records to share the championship.
PHS led 11-3 after one and took a 23-18 advantage into the locker room. Outscoring the Eagles 16-4 in the third, the Birds took a 39-22 lead into the final eight minutes.
Stuart Yoder led a trio of Birds in double figures, with 17 points. Tate Kauffman scored 13 and Caleb Rychener finished with 12.
Jordan Bailey was the only Eagle in double figures, with 13 points.
Pettisville was 20-38 from the field and 11-17 at the free-throw line. North Central was 8-40 from the field and 8-12 at the free-throw line.
The Birds grabbed 35 rebounds to NC’s 16, and committed 18 turnovers to the Eagles’ 15.
Sectional
Pettisville (10-12) opens the Division IV sectional tournament at 6:15 p.m., tonight, Wednesday, against Antwerp (8-13) at Paulding.
Stryker (14-8) plays Patrick Henry (7-14) in the nightcap at 8 p.m.
Winners play for a sectional title, Friday, March 6, 8 p.m.
The district semifinals are scheduled for Tuesday, March 10, at Van Wert. If Pettisville wins, the Birds would play at 8 p.m.
