Blackbird Girls Win Second BBC Meet

Pettisville cross country teams competed Tuesday, Oct. 5, at Hilltop in the second of three Buckeye Border Conference Jamborees that will determine league champions.

The girls came away with their second win, scoring 40 points to Fayette’s 57 and Stryker’s 62.

The Pettisville boys scored 93 to finish fourth. Hilltop won with 32.

Girls

Tanner Hostetler raced to win the girls race in 20 minutes, 28 seconds.

Second across the finish line for the Birds was Lexie King, who grabbed fifth in 21:38. Samantha Shinhearl earned eighth in 22:19, and Brady Avina placed ninth in 22:30. Amber Loar wrapped up the scoring, finishing 17th in 23:52.

Other Pettisville girls, their places and times: 19. Taylor D’Alelio, 24:09; 27. Lauren Hostetler, 25:20; 32. Heidi Waidelich, 25:59; 33. Kayla King, 26:10; 34. Taylore Lantz, 26:14.

Boys

Dominic Frey was the top finisher for Pettisville, crossing the line at 17:48 to claim eighth.

Tanner Rufenacht was on Frey’s heels, finishing ninth in 17:52. Aaron Bruner was 21st in 18:50, and Daniel Sauder finished 27th in 19:22. Justin Pursel completed the scoring, running a 19:30 race for 30th.

Fostoria Invitational

The Blackbirds traveled to Fostoria for the Fostoria Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 9.

The PHS varsity teams competed in the Black division.

The girls finished fifth out of 18 teams with 183 points. Seneca East claiming the team championship with 51.

Hostetler was 10th in 21:05. L. King finished 25th in 22:22, while Shinhearl was 48th in 23:21. Avina was 56th in 23:35.

Amber Loar completed the scoring for PHS, finishing 73rd in 24:17.

Other Pettisville runners, their places and times: 102. D’Alelio, 25:39; 119. Waidelich, 26:35; 120. Lantz, 26:37; 146. K. King, 28:51.

The Pettisville boys team finished 11th with 234 points. New Riegel claimed the championship, scoring 64 points and beating all other teams by over 50 points.

Frey was again the top runner for the PHS boys, taking 17th in 17:52. Tanner Rufenacht was on Frey’s heels, finishing 18th in 17:55.

Bruner finished 52nd in 19:00, and Borton was 68th in 19:21. Pursel ran a 19:41 to finish 83rd.
