The Pettisville girls cross country team finished third and the boys team was fourth at the Otsego Invitational, Saturday, Aug. 30.
“It was good to get an invitational in over the fair weekend, so we don’t have such a long layoff,” said Tom Wagner, PHS head coach.
“It was a great weather day, other than being a bit humid.
“Mary Jane Thurston Park is a true cross country course. Our kids ran up and down some hills and through a creek three times.
“The times weren’t the best, but that was to be expected. I think most of our runners had a fun race.”
Liberty Center won the girls race with 24 points, as five Tigers placed in the top eight. Brittany Atkinson won the race in 19 minutes, 22.44 seconds.
Whitmer was second with 53, and the Birds were third with 74.
Alexa Leppelmeier was the first PHS runner into the chute, finishing fourth in 21:44.
Elizabeth Sauder was sixth in 21:52; Nichole Foor was 13th in 22:55.
Elizabeth Miller placed 24th in 25:34, and Natalie Hoffmire placed 27th in 26:17.
Other PHS runners, their times and places: 30. Sarah Herring 26:25; 37. Krystine Davis 27:35.
In the open girls race, Hannah Herring was fifth in 27:51. Grace Friend placed sixth in 27:59; Gretchen Lee, 12th, 32:42; Kendi Nofziger, 13th, 32:58.
Liberty Center completed a sweep, winning the boys race with 35 points. The first five Tigers to cross the finish line all finished in the top 13.
Otsego was second with 39, while Whitmer had 89 to finish third and Pettisville had 93 for fourth.
Otsego’s Brandon Avers won in 17:09.44.
Kyle Lantz was the first Blackbird to cross the finish line. He placed fourth in 17:37.
Jacob Hauter was 12th in 18:40; Ben Gray was 22nd in 20:19. Nathan Siller placed 29th in 21:13, and Evan Warner was 31st in 21:31.

Seth Brakefield finished 14th in the open boys race in 26:14.
