Pettisville remains in the race for the Buckeye Border Conference title after beating Fayette 52-27, Thursday, Jan. 20.

The Birds, Stryker, and Edon are tied for the league lead with 5-1 records.

“It was a nice team win for us,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach. “Our transition defense and rebounding were the difference in the second half.”

Pettisville led 24-14 at halftime. A 14-11 second half gave the Birds the 13-point margin of victory.

Kaitlyn Nofziger led PHS with 20 points. Courtney Eitnear led the Bulldogs with eight.

Pettisville was 13-42 from the field for 31% and 11-16 at the foul line for 69%. Swanton (4-9) was 12-31 from the field for 39% and did not shoot a free throw.

“Our pressure in the first half got to them,” said Waldvogel. “We didn’t find as much momentum in the second half, but it was a solid win for us.

“We got contributions from all nine of our players, with Kylee Garcia controlling the boards for us.”

The Birds led 13-3 after one and 35-10 at halftime. Each team scored 17 points in the second half.

Nofziger led the Birds with 14 points. Allison Cuff led Fayette with six.

The Birds were 18-40 from the field for 45% and 13-17 at the foul line for 76%. Fayette (3-10, 1-5 BBC) was 10-39 from the field for 26% and 6-10 at the foul line for 60%. Both teams grabbed 24 rebounds; Fayette committed 28 turnovers to 15 for PHS.
