Blackbird Girls Give Stryker A Scare; Defeat Hilltop, Edgerton

Pettisville led 22-18 after three periods, but Stryker came back and outscored the hosts 13-8 in the fourth to edge out a 31-30 victory, Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Buckeye Border Conference girls basketball action.

The Panthers kept their record perfect at 6-0, 4-0 BBC with the win.

Pettisville led 7-5 after one but were down by one, 12-11 at the half.

The Birds outscored the Panthers 11-6 in the third period.

Stryker was 13-43 from the field, including 4-15 on three-point attempts, for 33%. Pettisville was 11-47, including 2-15 threes, for 23%.

Pettisville was 6-13 at the foul line while Stryker was 1-2.

Stryker’s Emma Grime was the only player in double figures, with 10 points.

Morgan Leppelmeier led PHS with nine.

PHS 48, Hilltop 22

Pettisville raised its BBC record to 4-3 with a 48-22 win at Hilltop, Friday, Dec. 15.

The Birds jumped out to a 19-2 first-quarter lead and never looked back.

Nichole Foor led all scorers, with 14 points.

Emmi Ryan led the Cadets (0-9, 0-5 BBC), with 11.

PHS won the rebounding battle 36-18, and committed only 12 turnovers to 17 for Hilltop.

PHS 40, Edgerton 22

The Birds led 12-3 after one and 26-13 at the half on their way to a 40-22 nonleague victory over the Bulldogs, Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Bird Cage.

“It was a good team effort, especially defensively,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach.

Elizabeth Beck led PHS, with 14 points. She was the only player in double figures.

Bree Hug led the Bulldogs, with nine.

Pettisville was 13-28 from the field, including 5-8 on three-point attempts, for 46% and 9-12 at the foul line.

Edgerton (1-5) was 8-39 from the field, including 1- 6 on three-pointers, for 21% and 5-10 at the foul line.

The Birds grabbed 29 rebounds to 21 for Edgerton, but committed 13 turnovers to 11 for the Bulldogs.
