Blackbird Girls Fall To Evergreen, Beat Edon



The Pettisville girls basketball team battled non-league foe Evergreen, Monday, Dec. 7, in a contest on the road. The Birds were outscored by the Vikings in every quarter but one and came home with a 40-28 loss.

PHS hosted Edon, Friday, Dec. 11, and won every quarter on its way to a 49-30 Buckeye Border Conference victory.

Pettisville is 3-2, 2-0 BBC.

Evergreen 40, PHS 28

The Birds led 8-6 after one period, but the Vikings (2-1) outscored PHS 11-4 in the second for a 17-12 halftime lead.

Evergreen won the second half 23-16 for the 12-point margin of victory.

“We did not show up tonight,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach. “Give Evergreen credit. They outhustled us tonight.”

Evergreen’s Lauren Langenderfer was the only player in double figures, with 15 points. Kylee Garcia scored nine points to lead the Birds. Erica King, Pettisville’s top scorer who had scored 27 and 30 points in the first two games, was held to five.

Pettisville was 12-34 from the field for 35% and 2-5 at the foul line for 40%. Evergreen was 14-34 from the field for 41%, and 10-13 at the line for 77%. Each team hit two three-pointers.

Pettisville won the rebounding battle, 32-31, but committed one more turnover, 14-13.

PHS 49, Edon 30

“We got a slow start tonight, but our bench came in and sparked us,” said Waldvogel. “Our defense picked up in the second half as we held them to just two field goals.”

Pettisville led 12-10 after one and 21-18 at the half. A 14-5 third quarter gave the Birds a 35-23 advantage, and PHS outscored the Bombers 14-7 in the fourth period for the 49-30 final.

King led PHS with 23 points, including three of the team’s four treys. Pettisville was 18-37 from the field for 49% and 9-18 at the charity stripe for 50%.

Edon was an ice cold 9-35 from the field for 26% and 9-13 at the line for 69%. No Bomber scored in double figures.

Edon (1-3, 1-1 BBC) won the rebounding battle, 24- 18, but committed 22 turnovers to Pettisville’s 18.
