Blackbird Girls Beat Evergreen, N. Central

Pettisville held Evergreen and North Central to singledigit scoring in every quarter on its way to two girls basketball road victories last week.

The Birds traveled to Evergreen, Monday, Dec. 2, and came home with a 38-27 nonleague victory.

Pettisville traveled to North Central, Friday, Dec. 6, and defeated the Eagles 44-22 in Buckeye Border Conference action.

PHS is 4-1, 1-1 BBC.

“It was another nice win against a quality team,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach.

“Mikala Avina stepped up for us tonight on the offensive end of the floor and hit some key free throws at the end of the game.”

Avina led all scorers with 12 points, including five free throws.

Dana Fricke was also in double figures, with 11.

Haili Mossing led the Vikings with 11 points.

The Birds led 12-6 after one quarter, 17-14 at the half, and 30-22 after three.

PHS was 14-40 from the field for 35% and 7-9 at the foul line for 78%. Evergreen (4-1) was 9-32 from the field for an ice cold 28% and 2-4 at the foul line for 50%.

The Birds won the rebounding battle, 27-15. Evergreen committed 14 turnovers to Pettisville’s six.

PHS 44, NC 22

Pettisville led 9-2 after one, 26-8 at the half, and 37- 16 after three.

“Everyone contributed to the win tonight, and our defense was solid,” said Waldvogel.

Avina and Fricke shared scoring honors with 11 points each. No Eagle scored in double figures.

Pettisville grabbed 28 rebounds to NC’s 17. The Eagles (1-3, 0-2 BBC) committed 24 turnovers to Pettisville’s 12.
