Blackbird Girls Beat Delta, Fall To Fayette



Pettisville went on a 17- 0 run in the final minutes, slipping past Delta 49-46, Tuesday, Nov. 27, in a nonleague girls basketball game at Delta.

The Birds opened Buckeye Border Conference action, Friday, Nov. 30, at Fayette. PHS led after every quarter but when it counted, as the Eagles outscored the Birds 14-11 in the fourth quarter for a 53-51 victory.

Pettisville is 1-2, 0-1 BBC.

PHS 49, Delta 46

Delta led 13-10 after one period and 24-17 at the half. The Panthers had a 15-point lead, 41-26, heading into the final eight minutes before Pettisville went on a 23-5 run to win the contest.

“I am extremely proud of our ladies,” said Jason Waldvogel, PHS head coach. “They truly showed what they were made of tonight.

“There were several times that they could have given up, but kept fighting. Everyone stepped up, with Lauren Hostetler really making a difference for us.”

Hostetler was the only Blackbird in double figures, with 22 points. Audra Klopfenstein and Jordyn Pursel each scored nine.

Three Panthers were in double figures. Brigan Wymer scored 13, Bri Raab had 12, and Victoria Brudo finished with 11.

Pettisville was 20-59 from the field for 34% and 5-11 at the foul line for 45%. Delta (2-1) was 16-52 from the field for 31% and 4-9 from the foul line for 44%.

The Birds dominated the rebounding battle, 28-8, but committed 17 turnovers to Delta’s four.

Fayette 53, PHS 51

Pettisville led 16-10 after one and 30-25 going into the locker room. The Eagles closed the gap to 40-39 after three before outscoring the Birds by three in the fourth quarter for the two-point BBC victory.

Hostetler led all scorers with 25 points. Dana Fricke was also in double figures, with 11.

Kaela Seiler led Fayette (2-0, 1-0 BBC) with 13 points. Taylor Griffiths had 11 and Mikayla Smith scored 10.

The Birds grabbed 20 rebounds to Fayette’s seven, and had only nine turnovers to the Eagles’ 11.

Pettisville was 17-50 from the field for 34% and 12-19 from the foul line for 63%. Fayette was 20-37 from the field for 54% and 9-19 at the foul line for 47%.
