The Pettisville boys basketball team opened Buckeye Border Conference play with a 49-39 victory at North Central, Thursday, Dec. 6.

The Birds were back on the road, Saturday, Dec. 8, at Tinora. The Rams roared out to a 20-4 first-quarter advantage and never looked back, as four players scored in double figures for a 66-34 non-league victory.

David Reyes had a huge night for PHS, leading all scorers with 28 points, including three three-pointers.

The Eagles led 13-8 after one and 25-20 at the half.

The Birds took over in the third period, outscoring North Central 15-6 for a 35- 31 lead going into the final eight minutes.

PHS won the fourth quarter 14-8 for the 10-point victory.

The Birds were 20-45 from the field for 44% and 6-8 at the foul line for 75%. The Eagles (0-2, 0-1 BBC) were 15- 45 from the field for 33% and 2-3 at the foul line for 66%.

Pettisville won the rebounding battle 29-20, but committed 17 turnovers to NC’s 16.

Tinora 66, PHS 34

A 2-0 lead was the only time the Birds led all night, as the Rams went on a 20-2 run in the first period for a 20-4 advantage after one.

Tinora (3-1) led 32-17 at the half, and won the second half 34-17 for the 66-34 final.

Seventeen points came at the foul line for the Rams, who were 17-25 at the charity stripe for the contest. Pettisville was 1-4 at the freethrow line.

Dominic Frey was the only Blackbird in double figures, with 14 points.

Tinora’s Sam Lehman led all scorers with 15 points.

Also in double figures for the Rams were Derek Drewes with 11, and Robert Wuo and Cameron Harris each with 10. The quartet accounted for 46 of Tinora’s 66 points.

The Rams had 29 re- bounds, led by Lehman with eight. Pettisville had 27, led by Reyes with five.

The Birds committed 19 turnovers. Tinora had 10.
