Black Swamp Benefit Dollars Ahead Of ’06

Although, the 2007 Black Swamp Benefit Bazaar did not set a new record in receipts, it did net more than in 2006. Robert Aschliman, Archbold, a member of the benefit board of directors, recently issued updated numbers.

Gross dollars are $179,458.88, up from $151,805.20 in 2006. Net profit for 2007 is $151,267.2 compared to $130,225.01 the previous year.

Since 2001, Sunshine Children’s Home, Maumee, and Mennonite Central Committee have shared the profits from the benefit.

Four auctions provided most of the dollars, $95,974.82. The Saturday auction totaled $85,437.82 followed by the Friday evening mini auction of $7,5550, a silent auction $2,254 and a children’s auction, $733.

Other dollars came from food stands, a breakfast, bake sale, beverages, and beef sales.

With additional donations, after expenses Sunshine and MCC each received $77,000 up from $65,000 in 2006.

Penny Power dollars, which included matching donations of $15,290, totaled $44,203.97l. MCC oversees the use of the dollars for water projects around the world.

The 2008 Black Swamp Benefit, the seventh annual Mennonite Quilt Auction, is tentatively planned for June 20-21 at the Fulton County fairgrounds, north of Wauseon.
