Pettisville (13-6) held off a surging Fayette team to up its volleyball record to 6-2 in the Buckeye Border Conference, Thursday, Oct. 8.
The Birds jumped out to a 21- 7 lead in the first game before winning 25-12. PHS led 15-7 in the second game when the Eagles mounted a comeback. Fayette closed to within one, 19-18, but a long serve gave a side out to the Birds.
Attack errors by Fayette gave PHS a 23-18 lead, and two kills by Chelsea Schmucker gave the Birds a 25-20 victory.
Game three remained tight throughout. After the Birds took a 15-13 lead on a Schmucker kills, the Eagles scored four straight points for a 17-15 lead.
John Horning, PHS head coach, called a time out to get his girls settled down. Schmucker came out of the huddle and hit another kill to end Fayette’s run.
The score was tied at 20 when a Katie Yoder kill put PHS up by one. On the next point Yoder hit three straight spikes and blocked a Fayette spike for a 22-20 lead.
Fayette tied the score again at 23.
Stephanie Yoder blocked an Eagle attack to put the Birds at match point, and a Fayette error ended the match with a 25- 23 third-game win.
