The Pettisville boys basketball team split two games last weekend and stopped a five-game losing streak.
The Birds traveled to Hilltop for a Buckeye Border Conference game, Friday, Feb. 5. Pettisville dropped to 4-3 in the league, losing 62- 52.
PHS traveled to Ayersville for its Homecoming, Saturday, Feb. 6. Pettisville (7-8) ruined the night for the Pilots, coming home with a 63- 51 victory.
Hilltop 62, PHS 52
Pettisville jumped out to an early lead, and at the end of the first quarter led 20-14. The Birds scored eight points in the second, but Hilltop ended the first half strong and cut the difference to two, 28-26.
The Cadets took charge in the second half, outscoring Pettisville 14-8 in the third for a 40-36 lead going into the final eight minutes.
Hilltop hit 13 foul shots in the final quarter for 13 of its 22 points while Pettisville managed 16 for the 62-52 fi- nal.
Jacob Rupp led all scorers with 20 points.
Taylor Short added 12.
Josiah Poletta led Hilltop (10-5, 3-4 BBC) with 16.
PHS 63, Ayersville 51
Ayersville took the early lead, hitting three threepointers on its way to a 17- 5 lead midway through the first quarter.
Pettisville clawed back and was down by only four, 21-17, at the end of the period. PHS outscored the Pilots 9-6 in the second to cut the gap to one, 27-26, at the end of the first half.
The Birds had a big third quarter, hitting four treys, including two from Short, for a 48-39 lead going into the final quarter.
PHS went 13-18 at the charity stripe in the final eight minutes while only hitting one field goal for 15 points, but Ayersville managed only 12 for the 63-51 PHS victory.
Rupp led all scorers with 23 points. Zane Miller added 17.
Sam Ewers led Ayersville (5-9) with 16 points.
